DVD-Recorder Xoro HSD R505

Technical questions

If you couldn't find answer to you question, please send you question to
MAS Support Team.

  • Is the recorder region code free?

  • The recorder is region code free ex factory.

  • Can I cut out the commercials?

  • The recorder has an edit function. Therefore it is possible to hide commercials or other unwanted movie scenes, you rather have not on your DVD later on. In order to make the DVD compatible, press the key “disc oper” on your remote control while being in the main menu of the DVD and select the item “compatible”. After that you can watch your DVD on other devices without commercials.

  • Does the device record daily/weekly?

  • There is the option to record daily or weekly. The recorder is able to store up to 8 different broadcasts. However, it is not possible to store over a period longer than a month.

  • I have a satellite dish. Can I use it with the recorder?

  • Yes. Thus the number of channels being received rises considerably.

  • I don’t get all channels by activating the automatic channel search.

  • This is caused by the so-called hyperband, which is used by some channels. The hyperband is a special frequency range in the cable distribution networks (the range of special channels S21- S41, between 302MHz and 450 MHz). If the problem lies there, please don’t use the automatic channel search function but look manually for these channels.

  • My burned DVD+R neither is replayed on this nor on any other device.

  • If you haven’t finalized the DVD+R (see also manual p. 24) the DVD can’t replayed on another device. By pressing the key “Disc oper” on your remote control when you’re in the main menu, you finalize the DVD. After doing so the DVD can’t be edited any longer. A DVD-RW can’t be finalized.

  • It’s not possible to copy my original DVDs from a DVD player with the help of the recorder.

  • Strong efforts are being made to produce original DVDs with copy protection. This protection can’t be circumnavigated with the recorder. However, burned CDs/DVDs shouldn’t pose a problem (ref. FAQ 4).

  • The screen is black/white!

  • There is a difference between the TV signals PAL and NTSC. Both, the recorder and the TV need to be set on the same signal – to do so press the P/N key on your remote control. If this isn’t successful, please read the manual of your output device, if both signals are supported.

  • Is it possible to show photos in a slideshow? How can I stop it?

  • The CD starts with a menu. There you also find a small preview of your photos. As soon as a photo is selected, the slideshow starts. By pressing of the “pause” key the slide show gets stopped. By pressing “play” the slide show continues. You have the option to choose from different changeover effects, to repeat photos or an entire folder, to enlarge or to minimize photos or even to turn them. However, the photos need to be in jpeg format, all others won’t be recognized by the recorder and not replayed.

  • I don’t get sound with the 5.1, optical or coaxial output.

  • Enter the setup menu and check the audio setup. If you connect a sound system via 5.1, then you need to adjust the setup as follows:
    Speaker – downmix- off

If you connected via optical or coaxial output, do as follows:
    Speaker – downmix- off
SPDIF – RAW or PCM – accordingly to your sound system

  • I don’t get a screen, but sound. Is the device defective?

  • Press the i/p key on your remote control. Select the right TV-signal (PAL or NTSC) for your TV. Check your cable or change it if necessary, to make sure that it works properly. If all attempts fail, contact our support team.

  • My avi files aren’t replayed.

  • Not all avi files are replayed. The recorder supports the formats DivX 3.11 up to 5.2 as well as Xvid, although without the pro features. Other MPEG-4 or avi formats aren’t currently supported. It is also important, that the video bit rate lies between 300- and 2000kb/s. We recommend MP3 128 kb/s or 192kb/s as audio format. If you should still have difficulties to get your files replayed, contact our support team.

  • Is there a bookmark function?

  • The recorder has this function, however in order to use it, it needs to be activated in the setup menu first. Press “setup” on your remote control, enter the sub menu “General Setup” and set the memory on “on”. Within files on a CD or DVD (e.g. AVI) bookmarks can’t be set.

  • Is there a random function?

  • There is such a function. To activate it e.g. for MP3 files, press the key “random” on your remote control. Only within a folder is it possible to use this function.

  • My audio CD isn’t replayed.

  • Check, if other files are on the CD besides the audio tracks (e.g. videos or photos). In this case the device doesn’t recognize the CD as an Audio-CD.

  • How many characters of the data name will be shown?

  • Up to 14 characters will be shown.

  • The output device gets no video signal from the DVD recorder.

  • Make sure that you have another video cable (e.g. scart or video cinch or s-video + audio r/l) besides the antenna connected to the recorder. Otherwise you only get the TV signal from your TV but no screen from the recorder.
